FAMILY PLANNING

The Doctors are all trained in modern family planning practice.  Emergency contraception is also available – the Receptionist should be contacted and an on-the-day appointment can be arranged. The Doctors are pleased to advise both men and women on all aspects of contraception.  Condoms and pregnancy tests are available without charge.

ANTENATAL CLINICS

These are run in association with the District Midwife on a Thursday afternoon.  In addition to your appointments with the midwife you will have regular appointments with a GP. 

POSTNATAL CLINICS

All mothers and babies are seen at home by a Doctor and Midwife just after the birth. The Post Natal examination for both mother and baby takes place approximately eight weeks later by appointment.

IMMUNISATION

The Doctors have a policy that all young children should be fully immunised in line with current evidence and are willing to give individual advice.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT CLINIC

This Clinic allows the Doctor and Health Visitor to assess children at important developmental milestones. Details of these milestones can be obtained from the Health Visitor.  

ACCIDENTS and MINOR SURGERY

The Doctors are equipped to offer treatment for accidents and emergencies and to perform minor operations where they feel it is appropriate in the patient’s interest

COMMUNITY NURSES CLINIC

The Community Nursing Staff offer a clinic between 09.00 and 10.00am, Monday to Friday by appointment for dressings, blood tests and ear syringing.

GENERAL

Travel Clinic

The Practice Nurse, Christine Montgomery, offers advice on all aspects of Travel Medicine including Immunisation and runs this clinic. Christine also runs the Influenza Vaccination Clinics each October, November and December. The Health Centre is a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.

Please allow adequate time in order for the vaccine(s)/medication to be effective. Please note that there may be a charge for certain vaccines. You can ask about this at the time of booking your appointment. To book an appointment please telephone 01360 550339 and ask for an appointment with the Practice Nurse.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 10 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations.  These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge.  This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.

LABORATORY SPECIMENS

Specimens are sent to the Laboratory on Monday to Friday. If you are asked to bring a sample on those days please ensure we receive it before 1145am. Patients should add their name, date of birth and address to the sample.

RESULTS OF MEDICAL TESTS

These may be obtained by telephoning 01360 550339 between 1200 noon and 4pm. The Receptionist may then inform you of the result or she may ask you to arrange an appointment with the Doctor or the Practice Nurse to discuss the result.

It is Practice Policy only to give results of medical tests to patients who are 16 or over and to the parents of those below this age.

Non-NHS Services

Certain services such as private sick notes, insurance claim forms and some medical examinations such as HGV medicals are not covered by the NHS.  These will be liable to a charge in line with BMA recommendations.  Reception staff will advise you if a fee is due.
